What little girl doesn't dream of being a princess? This completely custom fairy tale story was created for this beautiful little princess and her themed princess photo shoot.
Creating magic
Adelaide’s mum approached me to do a princess photo shoot, after falling in love with a concept photo shoot I did with one of Adelaide’s friends. She knew she wanted girly, twirly and magical, like something out of the Disney movies that Adelaide adores. After chatting about their home’s colour scheme and décor, we decided on this dreamy white backlit styling and stunning frothy frock from Dollcake Oh So Girly. We wanted something that was tasteful and elegant, but that was full of enough frills and flounces and magic to make any little princess’s dreams come true.
The story itself was written specifically for Adelaide. It needed to have plenty of opportunities for beautiful photos, but we also wanted it to be personal and have a special meaning for Adelaide. As soon as her mum mentioned that ladybirds were their “thing”, I knew we had to incorporate them somehow. That was our base, and the story grew from there, in much the same way that Princess Adelaide’s enchanted garden grew once she worked her magic!
We started out with a very loose storyline, and I pulled together a shot list of some of the key set ups we needed to capture. From there, it was all about having fun together during her photo shoot in my Te Awamutu studio, and fleshing out the story details with the images that best captured her bubbly personality.

I just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you for the photo book. When it arrived I sat with Adelaide and we looked over the photos again and again with tears rolling down my face.
You absolutely captured Adelaide as she is as a cheeky and spunky 5 year old. The true essence of her shines through in so many of the images you created.
Thank you again for creating ever lasting special memories. We most certainly will be back again.
