I did a family photo shoot for this family a couple of years ago when their youngest boy was just a bump, so I loved having the opportunity to work with them again recently to update their family photos. Although the older boys are older than what I typically photograph, it was great seeing how much they adore their little brother. He is a pretty lucky boy to have these two looking out for him!
Hamilton Gardens is one of my favourite places in the Waikato for family photography sessions. There are so many different settings that are perfect for family portraits and such a variety of options, all in one location. Big, wide expanses of lawn, beautiful big trees (particularly gorgeous in autumn!), heaps of ponds and bridges and railings tucked all over the place, and the beautiful themed Paradise Gardens which feel like you have stepped into a different country.
I love the little riverside park that is the setting for many of these photos. I stumbled across it by accident a couple of years ago while I was wandering around Hamilton Gardens with my camera in hand, and it has become one of my favourite portrait locations. Surrounded by trees and bordered by the Waikato River, it gets such beautiful light and has so many great little pockets just made for taking photos.
We had hoped to get some fun shots of the boys splashing in the pond at the American Modernist Garden, but we got a little side-tracked along the way and had pretty much run out of light by the time we made it there!
